Easy for Dayz is a new concept to McGregor with an innovative hybrid container house in the upper part of the village.
It has a spacious, north facing patio and a large braai area with splash pool, set in a beautiful garden. The cottage comfortably sleeps 4 people in 2 bedrooms and has 2 bathrooms of which 1 is en-suite.
Owner's Story below:
The home goes by the name "Easy for Dayz" the simple response my brother would give me every time I asked him what he felt like doing for the day or eating for a meal ... “I don’t know sis, I’m easy for dayz“.
It is a special space, a treasure box of memories and a container filled with dreams.
I wanted to fulfill that dream for my beloved brother and best friend, yet I wanted to build something different and sustainable which embodied his thoughts around how life should be lived. It had to be ground breaking and fresh, creative and bold while still being respectful to the natural environment.
The hybrid construction of the house is made up of a recycled shipping container that is wrapped with a wall and then plastered and whitewashed. This wall gives the container excellent thermal properties that protects the dwelling from the SE and NW wind in summer and winter. The hybrid nature of construction creates an inherently thick wall, which allows for deep reveals around small punctured windows and doors, reflecting the vernacular, as well as creating passive screening of harsh sunlight.
The fireplace/braai area is an important sculptural element in the architecture. The stoep end wall is expressed with a viewing window and window seat. On the North façade of the house, the large overhang of the roof protects a deck stepping down onto the garden and creating an extension of the living space from large barn-style sliding doors.
